Founder of Yemeni National Midwives Association honoured.

The title 'Humanitarian of the year' was given to Ms. Suad Kassem Saleh, by InterAction, an organisation that represents over 150 development and humanitarian NGOs worldwide. The award recognises individuals whose work reflects leadership qualifies such as initiative, courage and personal integrity.

Ms Saleh, who works for Pathfinder International in Yemen, has demonstrated leadership and commitment to women's health and rights, critical in improving the status of Yemeni women. Her efforts over the years led in 2004 to the creation of the Yemeni National Midwives Association, an association of more than 1,800 women dedicated to helping women through the country give birth safely.

For the past 40 years, Saleh has worked to save women's lives, particularly those in Yemen's most remote areas, by advocating and providing critical maternal health care and family planning services.
