'Regulation and Globalisation' was the theme of the 7th International Conference on regulation for nurses and midwives, which attracted over 400 regulators from 70 countries. Discussions centred on the impact of globalisation on professional regulation, with the aim of ensuring that midwives and nurses contribute to more effective policy development. Sessions included:

* Movement of nurses and midwives; mobility, migration and mutual recognition agreements

* Standards and competence--assessment and continuing competence

* Education for nursing and midwifery in a dynamic global environment
