ICM partner, the White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood, sent an 'Open Letter' to world leaders at the World Economic Forum on Africa held in June, calling on them to 'Invest in women's health to save women's lives lost in pregnancy and childbirth!'. It read:

'We challenge you--as you deliberate this week about investing in "the last frontier"--to share in the responsibility we all bear for women dying needlessly in childbirth. Join with those who demand increases in long-term investments to strengthen and sustain quality health care systems to meet every pregnant woman's right to life-saving care.
