ICM Secretary General Kathy Herschderfer attended the first annual general meeting, held in Sana'a, Yemen, of the newly formed Yemeni Midwives Association in September 2004. This followed an earlier workshop in June when representatives from international agencies, including ICM, USAID and UNFPA, met to assist a core group of Yemeni midwives in finalising the draft by-laws, clarifying their future role and developing an action plan.
